Set up night mode
Night Screen uses Apple Shortcuts to change iPhone’s display settings. You add its shortcut once:
- On the home screen, choose Midnight and tap Set up night mode.
- Tap Add NightScreen Modes, then choose Shortcuts.
- In Shortcuts, tap Add Shortcut. Keep the name NightScreen Modes and tap Done.
- Return to Night Screen and tap Added it? Try Midnight. Allow any Shortcuts prompts. Your screen dims and you return to the app.
Set up Red Tint
iOS doesn’t let apps read or change Color Filters, so you set your red tint once in Settings:
- Turn off Night Shift if it’s on: Settings → Display & Brightness → Night Shift.
- Open Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Color Filters.
- Turn Color Filters on, then tap Color Tint.
- Move Hue all the way to the right (red) and set Intensity to about 90%. Lower the intensity if text is hard to read.
- Return to Night Screen, tap I’ve set my red tint, then Turn on Red Tint.
Turn night mode off
Tap Turn off night mode on the home screen. It removes the night settings and sets brightness to 40%. You can also find it under Help (the ? button). Turning modes on or off from the app requires an active subscription. Without one, turn the settings off in iPhone Settings: Display & Brightness → Night Shift, and Accessibility → Display & Text Size for Reduce White Point and Color Filters.
Something isn’t working
A mode doesn’t turn on
Tap Set up shortcut again on the home screen to reinstall the latest NightScreen Modes shortcut, and keep its name unchanged. If Shortcuts asks for permission, allow it.
Red Tint looks wrong
Make sure Night Shift is off and your Color Tint is set as described above. Tap How to set or change your red tint in the app for the guide with illustrations.
The screen is too dark to read
Use the brightness slider at the bottom of the home screen, or lower the Color Tint intensity for Red Tint.
Subscriptions
- Restore a purchase: tap Restore Purchases on the plans screen or in Help, signed in with the Apple Account you subscribed with.
- Cancel or change your plan: open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Night Screen. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge.
- Refunds: Apple handles payments and refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Remove Night Screen
Deleting the app removes its local data, but it doesn’t cancel your subscription or delete the NightScreen Modes shortcut. Cancel in Settings as described above, and delete the shortcut in the Shortcuts app. Before deleting, tap Turn off night mode to reset your display.
